Thinking about going for a long weekend. What is there to do and where to stay? Thanks

Nice little downtown area on the river. Not much to do that I’m aware of. Shopping, few restaurants. I’ve only been for work. Not been to the beach.

Mai Kai is a Polynesian restaurant that also has a Polynesian show that rivals anything you see in Hawaii. It's worth a visit if you haven't been before. We like to make a stop for crab at Rustic Inn and/or Southport Raw Bar for seafood away from tourists.

When we lived there, our favorite beach was Deerfield Beach. Much less busy, more family-oriented. Lots of people like Pompano and Hollywood, too. The main Fort Lauderdale beach is nice, but driven by tourists because of location and usually crowded. Kayaking through Birch State Park is fun of you're into that kind of thing. You can have an impromptu pub crawl via water taxi through the canals. They have tours to the Everglades. The big boat/yacht show in October every year is pretty cool and there are plenty of places to dive and snorkel just off the beaches without the need for a boat or your guide. You're going to need to use a dive flag, though.

I can't help you with hotels since we lived there and didn't have the need for one.

we stayed at the marriot harbor beach resort when we went last year. Ate at Coconut's and Casablanca. No complaints. Pretty much all we did was eat and lay by the pool/beach.

Go to the beach.

Also check out Las Olas Boulevard.

What I would do is make the 1 hour drive to Miami Beach. Check out Ocean Drive. We stayed at Holiday Inn Miami Beach Oceanfront. Great prices and you'll easily find something to do in Miami Beach
