Worked for the IROC series in racing. Everyone has the same car, so it's about the skill of the driver.

Incredible idea, but the sponsors spending hundreds of millions on the sport will tell that rule to frick off.
ETA:
Maybe if they did this just for majors it could work? And leave it up to the other tournaments to enforce the "tour ball rule" or not.

Correct, it is not the equipment or we would all be hitting it 500 yards with their promise of 5 extra yards per driver series.
It is the ball. Just go back to wound balls that spin like a mother f'er. They not only spin high but spin left and right. It would put hitting fairways at a premium.
