I have been one defending him here.

I know...I think we share the belief that this team doenst need to be blown up and rebuilt as others have mentioned.

Getting Kamara locked down will allow FO to add complimentary pieces, instead of having to go find that hybrid replacement

A hybrid replacement for someone it took them 11 years to find. That's what gets lost in this "Trade X player" mantra we often see; with whom do you replace him? It's not that easy.

The signing of Thomas was done with the forward thinking of not having Drew. Usually smart teams don't shell out that much money for a WR; however, when you are soon to be breaking in a new QB it helps tremendously to have a great WR to help. Well, same thing applies with Kamara. He and McCaffery are the two best safety options for QBs in the league. When we are trying to work replacements for Drew, these two will make it much easier on any QB that runs this offense.

Plus the cap is increasing a lot each year. Once Drew is gone whoever is replacing him will be at a fraction of his price tag. This mitigates the cap hit of Kamara and Thomas. That along with the annual increase in cap makes it very manageable.
