Decrease preseason to 3 games
Keep regular season at 16 games (cuz seriously 17 makes no fricking sense in how you would allocate who you play. the current system and setup makes sense)
Turn 53 man roster to 60 man roster, no practice squad now, and all can be active on game day (wtf is that rule anyway?)
4 players can be placed on IR-designated to return

Agree on both of these. Have 1 home and away preseason game and 1 neutral site. Season ticket holders would be happy because its one less full price ticket they have to buy for a meaningless game.

The reasoning behind having gameday inactives was so each team had the same number of available players on gameday so a team dealing with 6-7 injuries wasn’t at even more of a disadvantage vs a healthy opponent. Whether you’re completely healthy or have 6 guys who can’t go, both teams would have an equal number of players available for the game

All of that takes away revenue from the owners. Preseason is where the owners make money because the players aren’t paid under their regular contracts until Week 1. That’s why the owners want a 17th game if the preseason is going to be shortened.

And expanding the active roster on game day means more money out of the owners pockets in the form of game checks. Practice squad players get paid far less than a guy on the 53-man roster.

What you’re describing is a players’ utopia but there are no givebacks to the owners to make that happen. And they won’t go for that.
