Would probably fly out of MSY. I don't mind renting a car and driving a bit thereafter, but it looks at least 6 hours from any major airport (Denver or Albuquerque).

What are my best options otherwise, and what am I looking at in time and cost?

I’ve always come up from Albuquerque, mainly because I like the drive.

Summer nonstops to Telluride.

I’ve never been out there, but’s it’s on my bucket list for winter, summer, and the Blue Grass Festival. It’s so close yet so far. There is also a Land Cruiser event there every summer called Hundreds in the Hills. The pictures look amazing.

No help on the flight, but if you are into sight seeing, rent a 4x4. There are tons of passes and trails you can venture on, most are very doable in a decent 4x4 midsize truck or SUV.
