Exactly. And, I hope every public school realizes that the Catholic league complains about Curtis and its recruiting tactics as much as the public schools did. I think if it were up to the private schools, Curtis would be told to go play with other IMG Academies.

I completely agree that recruiting is often done unfairly. But as many of said, both public and private regularly recruit. I guess the main difference is private schools have more to offer, as they can offer a scholarship, whereas a public school is already free.

But the bottom line is, fair or unfair, the schools like Curtis, or Evangel, or LCA, that are getting grief for recruiting, are obviously strong programs with or without the recruits. It may be a circular argument, but the reason that they are able to attract recruits is that they already are a strong established program.

Go look at New Orleans uptown private schools? You don’t think they spend as much money, if not more, then Curtis does recruiting for football and basketball? No one complains about them because they are not winning state. But as soon as they start winning, people will notice how many people they have on the roster that were inappropriately recruited, and people will complain.

And therein lies the problem. If recruiting is the issue, LHSAA needs to spend the time and resources to regularly investigate any and all out of district kids, and they need to crack down on all schools rather than just complaining about a few. I know there is only so much you can do, but just asking around, it’s pretty easy to figure out what’s going on at most of the schools.
