I think we're arguing semantics a lot in here by saying more/less sad by Kobe vs a US Military guy. I'm equally saddened by both, but the Kobe one will stick with me more, and I'll think about it more for obvious reasons.

1 is a guy who I never heard of until you just said it. The other is a guy who plays the sport I love and has been a figure in the sports world for over half my life, and I've spent countless hours watching/discussing. It's human nature, there's just an emotional investment there for 1 that you don't get for the other.


But like I said, it really does come down to semantics. I wouldn't say I'm more sad about Kobe, but it absolutely does/will hit me harder for all the reasons above. Maybe that's contradictory and does mean I'm more sad, but if so, I'll fall back to saying that's just human nature, seems pretty rational IMO.
