ETA: On second thought, if you can tap the storage tanks, you probably could survive a while. I take it back. Blow up the bridge and ride it out. You could post sentries along the bay side of the island and pick people off trying to cross via boat.
The only option would be to block it, fortify it and guard it.

You don't need to take the whole thing down, just a 10 or 20 foot section of the road deck and you're good. Make sure the section you take out is on the downslope visible from the island so you can see anyone trying to bridge the gap (SWIDT?) and handle them before they can finish.
