Pro-actively evaluating the work-product potential of all of your staff and making changes BEFORE the poor performers cause you to have three straight 7-9 seasons is simply not what this franchise has ever done.
The Saints were lucky to have Payton and Brees fall into the organization. I can't think of a single thing that the Owner or any GM has done to shape the roster with a long-term view of sustaining a string of SB appearances.
Until the Saints got Ireland, the player-personnel acquisitions and dispositions were not what you'd see with an annual SB contender.
This franchise has never had ALL of the pieces in place at the same time. Probably never will.
