They blatantly admitted to using offers as a way to decide who to pay attention to. If you don’t have a ton of offers, they don’t bother with you. They said that and grades are why Jefferson slipped through the cracks. They also said the Bama Bump is real because they trust Saban as an evaluator. He isn’t the only one, but he is a big one. I just thought it was crazy that they fully admitted to doing this.

I have no problems with their offers logic. I have a gigantic problem with their grades issue. Psst, you are supposed to be rating a guy's ability to play football...not his competence in algebra. Rate the guy on football talent and let God sort out if he will become eligible. That is asinine on their part and sounds 100% like an EXCUSE!

You can’t always separate the grades from the offer list though. Using the Justin Jefferson example - he didn’t have a commitable offer from LSU until the day he received his LOI. One day before he enrolled in fall classes. That’s a perfect example of how grades affect the ratings.

It’s one thing when a guy has a legit offer list but teams hold off on sending the LOI because he’s an academic risk. Pookah Williams was a top 300 player in the 247 composite despite his academic issues. Justin Jefferson was a different case where the offer sheet wasn’t there either.

Although he did apparently have offers from Tulane and Northwestern, which is.. interesting.
