The record clubs like Columbia House and BMG had their own pressing and tape dubbing facilities. They would just license a master from the labels and print or press their own copies that were made to look the same and added the club’s logo for identification so record stores could identify the club copies.

The infamous KTel Records did something similar for their compilation albums. Sometimes they would even re-record a song with different musicians, but kept the same singer to cut down on royalties.

One place where the clubs could help someone was with obsolete formats.

The clubs were still providing 8tracks and records long after they stopped manufacturing them for the retail market.
