You're not even counting the fact they beat the second best team in the country, a team coached by a legend with a Heisman QB, by 38 in the championship game.
They beat Nick Saban 50-10 that year.
They're the best college football team I've ever seen compared to their contemporaries.

This. The gap between them and the rest of college football that year was one of the biggest modern football has every had in terms of #1 vs. the rest of it.

I would say mid 80s Miami were the best. They were killers, a college football version of Oakland Raiders, the real ones.
