Is that what the video says? Actually the Stadium was expanded to 80,735 in 1947, then adjusted to 80,985 in 1955 (a few years before the LSU/Clemson Sugar Bowl).

He didnt give the capacity. Just said attendance at halftime and added that it was the largest.

The Sugar Bowl used bonds to pay for the expansions. Tulane got the benefit of a huge on-campus stadium, out of proportion to their own football program.
