I have not seen the kohler panels like you originally were asking about. I'll probably look at them at the builder show in a few weeks. The wholesalers are starting to push those more, but they are still rarely used in area in S. Louisiana.
Kohler has been pushing those hard in the past few years. They tried to get us to be a seller for them, but we're a glass company and would like to stay a glass company. The product isn't bad, but it's not something I'd use in my house. It's something more for apartments/hotels/tract houses. It might looks good in pictures, but up close it looks as fake as it really is.
Same with cultured marble. It's not my thing. If it fits your budget and you like it, go for it, but if you can stretch a little more for a proper tiled or stone shower, then do that. We do a lot of demos and reinstalls of shower enclosures that are mounted in cultured marble and I don't have good experiences with it. It stains very easily, and it's rare that we find one that's stuck to the wall properly. Cultured marble also limits what kind of glass enclosure you can use. Frameless is next to impossible unless you use a header with the glass. The weight of the glass will pull the surround off the wall otherwise.
