Replacing windows

We have about 10 windows on our home that need to either be replaced or have the glass replaced. Windows are fogged up and I am assuming that the seals failed. House was built in 2003. Cheaper option to have glass replaced or whole window replaced?

i’m about to replace 25 windows at a cost of $12k... the only thing i was told was don’t go cheap on windows.

Are you ignoring that advice then? Less than $500/window is going cheap, I’d say.

we replaced 21 windows when we did our reno. This was the second time we have replaced all of the windows on a house.
We used window world both times and have been extremely happy.
Hear me out (I know WW can be thought of as the Walmart of windows-but we have been completely satisfied). We have gotten weird sized windows replaced, regular windows replaced, and regular windows replaced with picture windows.
Window world has great prices and their lifetime warranty kicks arse. Our kids threw a basketball through a window. I told WW that on the phone. Figured they would figure it out anyway so why lie. Within a week they sent someone over and replaced it for free. Some latches weren’t working on the first house when we sold it. They sent a crew out within 2 weeks and replaced the entire window for free.
So. Don’t ignore window world. We have prob spent 20k with them and I would not hesitate to use them again and again. The warranty kicks arse. They take your entire window out, and replace with an option of colors and various other things. We stuck with standard white, no panes, and no frills. Would do it again.
TLDR; would replace entire window to make sure all aspects are updated. Cost isn’t a huge issue with window worlds fantastic prices.

WW replaced 17 of our home windows earlier this year. You are better off changing out the complete window. Get the updated energy saving with the newer windows.

It cracked the outer pane.
The driveway was a little weird so the window was right next to the goal.

I would seriously question the quality of a window if a kid could throw a basketball through it

window panes are pretty simple to replace, depending on how many you have. Your house shouldn't be old enough to need new windows. There are better alternatives to your issues than replacing 10 windows, but a lot depends on time and interest.

Window World replaced 24 windows at my 1948 home. Most windows were standard but had some unique and all are doing well. 5 yrs later. We did it in two installments. Made a ton of diff on noise level and comfort
The lifetime transferable warranty was a plus in the decision...though havent had to use it

quote:Insulated glass typically comes with about a 5 year warranty maybe 10 from the actual window manufacturer. 17 year old windows will fail pretty regularly and have nothing at all to do with foundations. I work in the glass industry and this is what I deal with every day.

That being said when you have an abundance of failures like the OP I would definitely recommend getting it quoted for glass replacement and whole window replacement. Like someone else said, new window will most likely be way better energy rated, using vinyl with LowE glass, than replacing with what you have currently.
