Seems like they could have handled this in one or two episodes.

They telegraphed that one a few episodes before in terms of him being moody and easily offended, as well as the fact that she knows his secret.

When Shy's manager was giving Midge the pep talk at the Apollo, my wife turned to me and said "I bet she's going to riff and let it slip that he's gay and he's going to kick her off the tour."

It was the logical move. They weren't going to do another season of her on tour. They were going to find a way to keep her in New York and growing her club routine and notoriety.

Maybe it's me but I felt like the whole tour with Shy thing was a missed opportunity that they could have done more with, especially given the period in which the show is set. I thought they'd deal with segregation, encounter racism, and delve into comedy in the black community, maybe even have her run across Red Foxx or someone like that.

The writers were a little fat and happy given the success of the show. I think the writing and plot effort in season 3 lacked what was seen in S1 & S2. They need to tighten it up and get away from the " big musical" format. And they get all the acting chops they can from Tony Shaloub and Marin Hinkle. There is a lot of high powered talent on that show.

Season 3 was pretty meh. Only liked a few episodes.

Will still give S4 a shot though.

Yes I realize this, which is why I'm ok with it and like the show.
