How much trouble would he have been for doing that in real life

Good question. Why don’t you ask the movie board about it?

He’d be reassigned to flying cargo planes full of rubber dog shite over Hong Kong

Less trouble than when he back talks the two Admirals. You don’t come back from something like that.

Do they still put guys in solitary for talking back?

You can talk back to an Admiral. Disobeying a direct order is something different.

You're not going to the brig for talking back.

She was re-filling her spank bank.

Yeah OK. You try that and let me know how it works out for ya.

Hey...at least he wasn’t doing another fly over of Penny Benjamin

Admittedly, I didn't dealt with admirals much during my time in the Navy. But I never had any issues with the chiefs, officers and pilots I interacted with. So I guess it worked out just fine.

I work with a few retired Admirals and Generals, most of the time I don't even realize it until someone points it out or it just comes up in shop talk, I think most of them kind of enjoy being just a normal Joe for a change

They're mostly normal Joes while on active duty. You can have disagreements with them, or get your arse chewed by them, without getting tossed in the clink.

Why the hell did the wife have to make you watch it? It should have been “The wife and I made the kids watch it last night”

I was turkey hunting several years back and had someone buzz the tree tops. I literally heard in coming for about 10+ seconds away. I thought a plane was crashing in my woods. I was trying to climb under a tree when it buzzed by. Thought I was dead and needed to go clean my shorts afterwards csb

now I've never done anything like this but a guy from work told me that he was doing a low level out in Washington a couple of years ago and saw a couple of guys fishing on a pier in one of the lakes and decided he would give them a personal flyover, he didn't realize what a bow wave he was pushing and after he passed over them he pulled up and looked back to see he'd blown them and their gear into the lake

was sort of referring to all of the bs/bureaucracy/responsibility associated with the mil that they no longer have to deal with

I know. I was more trying to say that the idea that admirals are all hard asses is not the truth of it.
During an at sea air show, we got hit with the wave from a Tomcat breaking the sound barrier doing a hangar deck level high speed pass. We were out on the sponson smoke deck when he came ripping by. Popped the barrier as he passed, everyone out there got blasted by the wave.
