Paging Bluemoons - Boat waxing questions

I have a thread bookmarked where you said this:
I see there are two types of Finese it II. 3M Finesse-It II Machine Polish (05928) and 3M Marine Finesse-it II Glaze (35928). Do you recommend one over the other? I see both can be used on gel coat / fiberglass.
Also, do you have a particular Detail Spray you recommend to break up the Collenite 885, if needed?
Pulling boat out of water today and plan to wax next week.
TIA

my process would be:
1. Wash the boat.
2. Dry with waffle towel/microfiber.
3. Apply Finesse-It II with orange LC pad to the entire boat, working in small sections. Remove with microfiber towel.
4. Apply Collinite 885 with a blue or red LC pad. Work in sections that are small enough to avoid letting the product completely dry. Remove with microfiber and use detail spray if necessary.
I do the above to my boat once a year, and compound where necessary.

I'm not Bluemoons but the machine is for auto paint jobs i believe. The one you want is marine finesse it II glaze. white and green label.

Another bump for Bluemoons. He must be MIA, hasn't posted in about a week.

He's resting from chasing bones in the Bahamas

Hey man, sorry for the delay. Haven’t been on TD as much lately.
My experience is solely with the glaze (link posted by blacksheep), but that’s just because of my process. I find it sufficient on its own to remove minor paint problems, and it’s good to follow up 3M rubbing compound for heavier issues. It will remove haze or swirls from compounding.
As for detail spray, anything will do. They have plenty of options at any local auto parts store and I generally just pick up whatever is available. I just checked my detail box and the type I’ve currently got is Meguiars quick detail spray.
Thanks for the post. This just reminded me of the day’s worth of paintwork I need to do on my skiff .

How do you go about getting your Collinite 885 on to your DA buffer?
Posted on 1/6/20 at 12:43 pm to WPBTiger
I use the 925 liquid wax, its easier to apply with the buffer and goes a long way. the shine it adds is awesome and water beads off nicely. I add a topper coating on top of it. I use car pro reload, its a great sealant. anymore questions let me know.
also when compounding use a wool pad, I use a lake county hybrid wool. works great, for other small issue I use the orange pads, and for applying wax a blue or black finished pad,

First time using the 885, have used 925 in the past. For the 885 being a paste, I wiped in on by hand and then used the buffer, blue pad. It seemed to work okay, boat came out shiny.

I do the same. Just wipe it on by hand. A little goes a LONG way with Collinite. Glad you had success .

You are right about that. The best thing was learning to wipe it off before it dries. Last time I did the boat, I used 925 and put it on the entire boat at one time. It obviously was completely dry when I went to take it off and was a bitch.

Bluemoons, Whodat and whoever else wants to chime in, do you do the process (clean and wax) on the floor of you boat? Does it make it to slippery when waxed?
