What position do recruits labeled "athletes" usually play?

I always mean to keep up with those labeled athletes but never do. LSU usually gets a very highly rated one each year. I tend to view them as what I would call a "flanker", a short route receiver, but I really don't know.

Seems like there were a lot more of those in the past. Nowadays those guys seem to get slotted in a position beforehand. DB or WR.

It’s usually a very athletic QB that’s not going to play QB at the college level. So usually DB or wideout. But occasionally you see one project as a speed rusher or running back.

Could be many different options, some including:
WR/DB
RB/LB
LB/S
LB/DL
You could always go back to previous classes on 24/7 and compare where they ended up.

Good idea! Wasn't Russell Shepard a five star athelete?

Wr/db
Mark Ingram had that tag, which is odd for his measureables.

It just means they are good enough to play but don't really have a defined position. Darnell Washington is 6'7" and 261 lbs and listed as an athlete. Darnell can play DL, OT or TE.
La.'s Sage Ryan next year is listed as an athlete. Sage can play DB or WR at the next level, it is yet to be decided.

Safety or OLB. I feel like those players generally have less of a pure offensive skill set so they end up in defense.

Bo Scarborough rb/wr
Derrick Henry rb/lb
These are two I remember off hand that really excelled, that I thought based off measurable’s would have made decent lbs.

I'd goto 247 ATH rankings and look at the 2014-2018 guys and what position they play now

It depends on the player
The most common though are guys that can play WR/DB
But Darnell Washington, #1 Athlete in the country this year, is a DE or TE
Jacoby Stevens was listed as an Athlete by some services because he could have been a S or WR

Good catch. Corrected spelling. Atheletes is how most people say it, athletes is how it should be said (and spelled).
