But don’t put too much into these rankings because we know they are manipulated to some degree. We all know Bama always gets a star boost somewhere along the line but we saw how that played out last month in Bryant-Denney. Plus, we have 6 spots left with 2 five star recruits in play not to mention the four star recruits we can sign. Our team is loaded with talent and trending up. A dynasty is being born right before our very eyes. Don’t miss it because you were blinded by the hype. GEAUX TIGERS!!! #aintbackindown

Just remember Justin Jefferson was rated as a 3 star by 247 Sports (308th rated receiver) and a 2 star by Rivals.

There are always exceptions but they get it right more times than not. A five star is more likely to make it to the NFL than a four and a three more likely than a two.

I mean aren’t we going to finish top 5 in the country? I don’t understand the concern.

Maybe. Half of the NFL is 4 and 5 stars. The other half is three stars and below

I for one am very skeptical of recruiting rankings that go to three and four decimal places.

The power five and top ten programs get the best talent over the long term. But coaching once they get to campus is huge. We shall see what happens.

We can tell that LSU has significantly closed the talent and coaching GAP on other SEC teams This recruiting class keeps that going.

Isn't the statistic like 80% of 5 stars are drafted into the NFL? The rankings have been pretty legitimate overall. Also need to take into account the amount of 5 star players vs 3 stars. Half the NFL is 4 and 5 star recruits, but what about college? I would expect <5%. That's a pretty good success rate.

Right.

There are like 30 5* and 150 4* players every year.

There are 1000s of 3* and 2* players.

So if the NFL is made up of 50% 5/4* players then that would absolutely mean that the rankings are absolutely correct more times than not.

Stars matter but where the stars are distributed also matters. Tamu under sumlin had several classes with highly rated skill position guys that never won big after Sherman’s o lineman graduated. Our class is “disappointing” due to losing a couple wide receivers. That is the last place I worry about with how Louisiana cranks our wide receivers

Then that is a pretty damn good "hit" rate considering there are FAR fewer 4-5 star prospects than 3 star prospects.

Hell, lets just look at LSU's recruting classes:

2015 LSU signed ELEVEN 3 star players. Only 2, McGee and Moreau, became impact players

2016 LSU signed NINE 3 star players. Only 1, Chusenberry, became an impact player

2017 LSU signed NINE 3 star players. Four became impact players (CEH, Jefferson, McMath, Farrell)

2018 LSU signed NINE 3 star players. Only one became an impact player (D. Lewis)

Out of those 38 players signed only 8 made a big impact (21%). Compare that to the % of 4-5 star players who make up most of the starting line up. So yes, you can find those low ranked players who become superstars (CEH, Jefferson, etc.). But saying the rankings don't matter all that much is asinine. If you want to be Miss. St, Ole Miss, Kentucky, South Carolina, feel free to sign a ton of "under the radar" 3 stars. Me, I prefer LSU putting together classes of largely comprised of 4-5 star talent.
