Congrats on going back and finding him.
Ton of take aways from this post.
No blood or sign of hit = dead deer
Dogs don’t always track a dead deer
7mm mag at 60 yards does not equal Thor’s hammer
Pile of white hair does not equate to a miss.
Glad you found him let’s see the pics they not loading

Truth.

A good dog will. OP doesn't have a good dog. Probably a good pet but it sucks at being a dog if it couldn't find a deer that only ran 45-80 yds. There is no excuse in the world for that. If anyone says it needs training they are FOS. A dog doesn't need training to use its nose.

I can show you a dog that's never been trained and will track wounded deer through a swamp. A dog that averages 30 deer a year and has never been on anything other than real deer. No mock blood trails or hide/hooves. A dog either has it or it dont.

My eyes will roll right out of my head when people say “I shoot a (whatever big caliber) and they always drop”.
