The answer to all this hypocrisy (by you guys), tinfoil hats, and butt-hurt fanbases (you guys) is to expand the playoff to 8 or 16 teams.
That's the only answer. It doesn't have to be the top 8 teams or the top 16 teams based on rankings, and it could be done objectively. It could be all conference champions plus handful of at-large teams decided by records/opp win-losses, etc. The seeding can just be fixed bowl matchups just like it is now.
It's really not that hard - every other sport does it in some fashion and it doesn't cause this much mass fricking tinfoil hat hysteria.
