I put dog crap in there occasionally, but no food waste other than produce refuse such as orange peels, old lettuce, etc.

Not a desirable compost material... but certainly not why the ants are present.

Spinosad is made from a soil bacteria, so it's relatively safe for this use. Personally I wouldn't worry about it until it's closer to the time I'm wanting to use the compost.
