It's not essential, but I'd like to be able to segment certain devices like smart devices from my regular home network. Basically have an internet only network. If I had a separate Ssid on a different vlan I could make all that work with my erx.

Pretty much all wifi routers today can do this, I think. "Guest wifi" is what you're describing. You can call it whatever you want, though.
Edit: Usually devices on a guest wifi can't see each other, either.
