Driving to Baton Rouge for anyone that wasn't already staying there was a nightmare at that time, on top of everything else people were dealing with. That team was also a dumpster fire and fans were pretty much done with Haslett and his crew already.

After a decade of sustained success and a generation of fans that have now watched the Saints win more than lose, I think think they'd have no problem filling up Tiger Stadium.

Plus, there were really bad vibes around the Saints at that time. The feeling was Benson was going to use Katrina as an excuse to move the team to San Antonio. I think he even got into a scuffle with someone at Tiger Stadium for the first game -- maybe it was a fan -- I know he said he wasn't going to any more of the B.R. games.
I was at that first game against the Dolphins - Nick Saban's homecoming. Crowd started off enthusiastic, then got pissed. Aaron Brooks did the Aaron Brooks thing of throwing a dumb interception, then going back to the sideline smiling like he just saw Beyonce in the nude. By the second half, people were tossing paper airplanes onto the field.
