Based on advanced metrics he’s an average to slightly below average defender. He’s a better perimeter defender than multiple star players who don’t catch heat for their “defense”.

That's the first thing anyone brings up when talking about a white player...oh, here we go again...gotta trot out the he doesn't play any defense.
Most of the league doesn't play any defense.
Magic Johnson didn't play any defense. Games were 149-115.
But I love when people suddenly act like defense is a big deal in the NBA.
