Well I believe it would be beneficial and seen as a very important piece that keeps the economy flowing.
My bigger fear is a future govt increasing the amount of the payouts to some absurd level. But I have to trust in the future people to be level headed and thinking ahead, which very well could be naive

Your assumption that substituting a flat rate for dedicated welfare funds is naive. There are many reasons why people on welfare are poor. Mismanagement of money is the #1 reason.
