A real fiasco would be if a team that might be natty level was left out. That happens less with the playoffs than BCS.
I'm not sure you can really make a case that any team left out of the CFP to date had a real good shot at a NC. Generally, the teams that could win have been in.

People act like a 1 loss conference champ isn't gonna leap bama just because they are behind them right now. I really don't see any way bama keeps out a 1 loss pac 12 or OU big 12 champ. Baylor and minnesota probably need to go undefeated to get in but they at least control their own destiny
