Very under-rated movie IMHO.
The scene after the game in his hotel room when he realizes that he has just done the nearly impossible bu has no-one to enjoy/share it with is very poignant.
Of course I have a bias towards his movie as I was a pitcher myself.

It was what we really want our sports movies to be.
Was it melodramatic? Well, yeah. But we want melodrama in our sports movies. Hell, sports is melodrama.
It is what it is. Its a big schmaltzy sports movie and you know what? I can live with that. Sometimes that is exactly what I want to watch.
I call it the Princess Diaries theory of movies. The Princess Diaries is no one's idea of a great movie, but everything it sets out to do it does very well.
When I watch a horror movie I want it to be spooky. I want an action movie to be fast paced. I want a comedy to be funny. I want a sports movie to be... a sports movie.
