LSU has had a lot of good seasons the last ten years, but has been on the outside looking in when it comes to winning the SEC and playing in championship games. The Tigers had a number of ten win seasons with poor to mediocre quarterback play. Imagine how many more games LSU might have won with an elite quarterback, even with the prehistoric offenses of the Mile's era.

To know how critical a good quarterback is to success in college football, one need look no further than the college playoff rankings this week.

1) LSU - Joe Burrow

2) Ohio State - Justin Fields

3) Clemson - Trevor Lawrence

4) Georgia - Jake Fromm

5) Alabama - Tua Myanklehurtalotta

6) Oregon - Justin Herbert

Its the same thing in the NFL. Year in and year out, the teams with top quarterbacks make the playoffs.

LSU is working on an historically great recruiting class this year. Somewhere along the way they need to make sure they have a top qb pulling the trigger. With the performance of the offense this year, the hopeful Heisman for Burrow and the signing of Brady to a long term deal, LSU should have no problem going forward getting elite qb recruits.

Its no coincidence the top six teams in the playoff rankings feature six of the top qbs in college football.

The NFL has changed rules to allow for a more offensive game as well.

I wouldn't classify Fromm as an "elite" quarterback. He's a good quarterback on a really good team. Almost a system guy more than anything. I don't know enough about Herbert to say either way.

Elite qb's or better than elite defenses these days. The most important position on the field is the qb. We are having this success by having an elite qb with elite leadership, talent and an elite brain. His coaches are elite as well.

One of the biggest things that will come out of this historic run is better QB recruits. Joe winning the Heisman is crucial for the future of the program.

LSU has been able to compete for the #1 player at every position on the field, except QB. Kids didn't want to go to Baton Rouge to hand the ball off. Now they can put up Big 12 stats at a SEC power on the biggest stage.
