Could be great

In theory - full disclosure - my absolute favorite shows of the 1990s were Frasier and Newsradio. Frasier is arguably my favorite show and Frasier Crane is definitely my favorite television character of all time.

This is very dangerous - like "Star Wars prequels" dangerous.

Frasier in his mid-60s, still looking for love in all the wrong places and trying to do a parenting job on a millenial Frederick - would be early 30s - almost exactly the age Frasier was when he appeared on Cheers is likely to be sad in an unironic, unfunny way.

I don't doubt the talent of the cast - they were pretty solid back in the day. But, are folks going to be watching 60-year old Roz and Daphne? I'm being realistic about how superficial and ageist the average television audience is.

You can have a show with a couple of old fogeys around for either "tough love" or comic relief. You can't have "A" stories around them every week.

I just don't think it can work.

Matlock, Golden Girls, Murder She Wrote, Barnaby Jones would say different.
