I actually enjoyed X and Y but they dropped mega evolution which was the best idea they’ve come up with.
Well, technically they dropped megas and Z-moves but re-added them in the form of dynamaxing and gigamaxing, which are the same but with slight variations. But yeah, would've made more sense to just add more megas at that point.

Hell yeah.

I'm not even that upset over the dex cut when looking at the rest of the problems. The game in general looks like a rushed mess. Outdated environment graphics (when a Breath of the Wild open world is a major selling point...), sloppy animation, short campaign (14 hours), linear routes, and ugly character and Pokemon designs. The biggest offender might just be the generic, anime like cliched garbage of a plot that Gamefreak has pushed since X/Y. Pokemon is at the Disney-esque stage where the main entry video games are merely a cog in the machine that allows the Pokemon company to make their fortune off merchandising. Otherwise they would stop wasting time making models for 80+ new Pokemon (gotta sell those plushies) and actually make a GOOD video game.
Reviews should be dropping in a hour or so if reports are to be believed. I'm of course expecting the major outlets to carry Gamefreak's water. We'll see.

Seems like some of the claims are false. I’ve seen a few reviewers say the game took them ~30-40 hours.

I think it just comes down to how invested players get in the games. Even the reviewers I've seen that listed the time it took them said they even rushed in order to meet deadlines for the article

Well apparently it has been discovered that Sword and Shield reused the models for X and Y. They used the models for Pokémon from a game released 6 years ago. This looks so bad.

Yikes.
frick this. I’m out.

It's getting amazing reviews. So seems weird reading all that

Wait they reuse models from the game that brought us Mega Evolution but no Mega Evolution in game?

This isn't actually a bad thing, since those models were actually pretty good. The controversy is that Gamefreak lied and said that they had to create new models, their reasoning for 60%~ of the dex being cut. Though there is some major scaling issues this time around. Pokemon that should be giant are the same height as a 10 year old.
If they didn't make new models, why is the rest of the game so sucky? Eurogamer brought to light a great point. There are zero dungeons in this game. Remember how fun the Silp Co. dungeon was in Red & Blue? The Rocket Hideout and the burned tower/whirl islands in G/S? The many dungeons in R/S and D/P? Gone. Nothing like that in these games. Just linear routes and a half baked open world section.

The smaller pokedex doesn't bother me. Hell I wouldn't mind a game with none of the pokemon from the previous games. I'm sad because ever since I was a kid I've always wanted a pokemon game on a strong console. It's just sad that this game looks like a dumbed down 3ds game. You have move animations that still look like crap and npcs don't even talk. I always loved doing nuzlocke runs but I don't even know if that's possible on this game.

Does anyone have a good image/graphical list of which Gen1 Pokemon are included in the game?
Is there any difference in Gen1 Pokemon on Sword vs Shield? Idk which to buy atm.

How does this relate to my question?

Does this include the "leaked/rumored" 235 or only the "official" 200?
Guess I could count the green squares but that would be ridiculous.
Edt: Thanks!

I’m not sure and I’m not counting either.
Either way, it’s too many and a lazy solution on GameFreaks part.

Could they add more back as updates?
Posted on 11/17/19 at 9:35 am to alabamabuckeye
They’ve never really given an official explanation for why they were deleted in the first place, other than to say it had to do with some balancing issues. Why suddenly in the 8th generation, Pokemon from gen 1 are causing balancing issues, I don’t know, but I would say it seems very unlikely they will ever add those Pokémon to the game again.

That’s a shame. I’m not as involved with Pokémon as others. The last game I played was Red/Yellow and I was obsessed with them. I got Shield for the Switch and I’m enjoying it so far, but I’m probably expecting less from it than others.
