I saw the son in front of Calandro’s a few months ago giving lapel pins out for Vietnam Veterans support-which he did 2 tours. He’s in his 70’s now and we were talking about the chicken po boys. He reminded me that the dark meat was in brown butcher paper and the white meat in white butcher paper.

That’s a good call and one I miss.

I also miss the egg salad sandwiches and pimento cheese sandwiches only served on Friday in wax paper bags for $.50. We would come home from school and my mother had a platter of those. Or we would get the chicken and go eat at Goodwood Park.
