Not in my limited experience.

We love to talk about the ease of becoming a plant baw and making 100k+ with your 10th grade education, but becoming an operator at a decent plant involves beating out 200+ other applicants to make it into their yearly "class".

Sure you can find work with a contractor and get in that wat, but a lot of those dudes aren't clearing the "big" money. The demand for operators doesn't come close to the supply of available baws.

There's other ways into the oil field, but I don't know anyone who's finished high school and walked into a job making 6 figures within the first few years without some serious connections. At least in the south.

Also got to factor in the physical toll. A dude working a white collar job could conceivably continue to do that for 35-40+ years easy. Strenuous physical labor and 12 hour night shifts is a young man's game.
