Any scholarship player who leaves via graduation, the NFL or any other reason frees up a scholarship of the 85.

It doesn’t allow the school to sign more than 25 in a given year.

Which I still don't understand how a school can replace that scholarship. I mean, transfers are part of the 25 limit, so how exactly can they replace the scholarship? Yea, they can give it to a walk-on, but that's not improving, unless the walk-on is worth the scholarship. There have been some that earn and are well worth a scholarship, but those don't come around much. I still feel if a player transfers a team should be allowed to add a transfer to replace the scholarship. Maybe no another HS or JC recruit, but a transfer from another 4 year school.

Well you can sign 25 a year, if they were to all stay for 4 years you would have 100 on scholarship. Since you are only allowed to have 85 on scholarship, you have to lose 15 players over 4 years. On average you need 4 players per signing class to leave early / transfer / move on

Yea, I understand this, but theoretically you cannot control who transfers or how many. Oh well, I doubt this would ever be an issue. Just seems like it could be an issue for someone at some point. You know, where you lose 35 players in a given year and cannot sign but 25. Far fetched as it might seem.

There is a rule but im not real versed on how it works. The bama recruiting page has it with some explanation. Something about kids that leave signing something reliev8ng the school of any financial aid. Then an EE pays his own way for a semester then is given that "replacement" scholarship. Again i dont really know the exact way its used

This does not include redshirts or scholarships granted to walk-ons. Which we have done for our punter and Kick Off guy.
I think the number of early departures needs to be closer to 8 per year.

side note... it is being very versed in such things AND advising our staff of options, potential options, even ones that are in gray areas, that is at the top of the list our Compliance Dept SHOULD be doing.

While this does happen from the CD. It is usually at the initiation of coaches insisting on clarification and only the 'rogue' elements in CD present those options. The 'mainstream' of our CD will only tell them what they can't do, not options. And a grey area is a 'no go' area.

Just sayin'.
