Even the good reviews (and there are a lot of them) make the gameplay sound pretty terrible to me. It’s also surprisingly long. I’m curious, but I’m not sure I’m curious enough to pay full price when Jedi Fallen Order comes out a week later.

So it seems that every mission is a fetch quest to some degree.

I didn't realize that comes out so soon. It kinda sucks that it's probably better to just wait a month after a game comes out so that they can fix the game.

After watching that video, I'm slightly more intrigued by the thought that this whole thing is an elaborate troll.
You literally spend time finding a way to balance packages on your back before you then walk or drive those packages across a desolate country. And that's the primary loop. And it's like at least 40-50 hours long!
It's possible that I'm even more curious now. Somehow.
The reviews certainly aren't bad: LINK

yep, as polarizing as we all expected
i cant wait. one guy said the game becomes a 10/10 in the final act but that the majority of people will quit before getting there

Sounds like something right up my alley lol.
I held off though and bought the Bioshock collection for $15 instead. Gonna be a long weekend if I can even finish the Outer Worlds.

Many of the 10/10 reviews are over the top to the point of comedy. They seem to be praising it far more as a work of "art" than a video game, by their own admission. I mean these are directly from some the 10/10 reviews:
The consensus points across all the reviews I've seen:
1. It's very slow paced, particularly at the beginning.
2. It's trying to do something different than traditional games, which will be very divisive.
3. Lots of different types of game play genres come and go: action, stealth, exploration, survival, gunplay, etc.

Death Stranding is not a “fun” game, but it’s an important and meaningful experience
quote:
Death Stranding will surely be the most divisive game of this generation, there is no arguing that it offers new ideas on pushing the medium forward and shows that games don't always typically have to be "fun"
quote:
Death Stranding does belong in an art gallery more than it does sitting on consoles next to more traditional "games". As I sit here to write this, I am fully convinced that there are going to be plenty of reviews from my peers that veer to the other extreme as far as their scores go. And fair enough, because as a “game” Death Stranding doesn’t do much.

Yeah I'm passing too, just not my cup of tea right now. I'd rather catchup on my backlog of old games I wanna replay.
I'm not against experimenting in video games, it's a necessary thing. Making the exact same shite over and over again isn't something anybody wants either. I'm sure there are some cool things the game does that hopefully can be refined and incorporated into future games.
At the end of the day there's really no reason you shouldn't be able to have a meaningful experience AND non-boring gameplay all at the same time but it takes time to figure out that formula with new technologies and genres.

Wait a fricking second.
A word I typed in my message was literally auto-changed to fig and STILL the post is removed?
Yeah, frick right off, mod.

Honestly consider yourself lucky lol. I got banned two months because I said that word in regards to people who camp around corners in PvP game modes on this board.

are you trying to justify it?

I got banned this past weekend for the first time since my OG account in 2006.
It was less than 36hrs but felt like hell. Wasn't anything imo.
Yeah, stop bitching and consider yourself lucky.

I wouldn’t have typed it had I known I’d get banned. It is used very often on other boards and the post won’t be touched.

I figured it was common knowledge that one was a no-no on TD.
Unless you're on PT.

Lol what did you get banned for?
I’ve been banned 3 times and they’ve all been for more than a month. It’s been awful every time

I mean I probably should have assumed. It is not a nice word, I do use it more than I should. I just found it a bit extreme for how long i was banned.

I think they'll let you get away with "fig", but you can't even substitute an "@" for the "a".
