my biggest beef with the split title that season is that the ap poll was a part of the bcs formula.

LSU fans will say no even though they would've claimed 2011 if the AP had kept them #1.

ask vegas sportsbooks who they considered the natty winner in futures bets. ask them what team they had to pay out on? I know because i bet on LSU to win it all that year.

hint: it ain't USC.

I haven't read all 4 pages but no, it doesn't and I can't comprehend how this has been such a debate even 16 years later.

The AP was one small part of the BCS whole. When the BCS formed everyone agreed to its stipulations and that 1 would play 2 in a "national title game" and the winner was the champ. The BCS was made up of the coahces poll, ap poll, and a variety of computer rankings. AGain...all small parts making up the big BCS pie.

Just because one of those little ingredients voted USC #1, doesn't mean shite. Let's say for example if everyone had voted LSU #1 except for the colley matrix or some other computer algorithm, would it still be a split title? Of course not. LSU was the national champion and there's really no argument otherwise.

No one even thinks USC is in the conversation.
