The defensive narcissists in this thread make me sad. It’s just another example of men refusing to grow up and act like adults. Your fathers failed you.

I can’t imagine not wearing a dark suit to a funeral and a sport coat (at minimum!) to a wedding. If you don’t want to spend money on a suit because you’ll only wear it once a year, do more things where a suit would be appropriate. Go to a nice restaurant, go to a play...something to justify the expense. I’m about to go buy a nice dress overcoat to go with a suit because I’ll be attending a funeral in the near future and the weather will be cold. A tie is not uncomfortable when you are wearing a shirt that fits properly.

When my Daddy passed away, my Mom told us she did not want anyone wearing a lot of dark colors. She wanted light and happy, nothing sad. The girls had to find something other than black to wear. Nothing dreary. She wanted a celebration of his life and not a cry fest. She got what she wanted and it was all lovely.
