Yeah. Stupid, stupid move by us. The Kurds have been our biggest ally against ISIS and we left them to be slaughtered.

The real question you should ask yourself is, is it in America's interests to put 50,000 troops into Kurdish territory in Iraq and Syria so as to secure the formation of the state of Kurdistan?
Because if we back Kurdish independence in Syria, it will take at least 50,000 troops to support that commitment and to win the war that is almost sure to come.
Turkey, Syria, Iran and Iraq are not going to give up that land without a fight. There’s no scenario where negotiating for the land is possible either as that’s not how their cultures work, especially over something so sensitive as a full blown state and the size of the land we're talking about here. Might makes right is the prevailing philosophy over there.
We like the Kurds, sure, but at the end of the day what's in it for us to make that kind of sacrifice? You do that and you now have Iraq, Iran and Turkey forming a formal alliance against you to do God knows what.
And the way I see it it's an either-or proposition. Turkey is going to move into Syria because Turkey is tired of Syria destabilizing their southern border. You can't stop that with the 50 or 100 American troops you have left. So either you go all in with 50,000 troops or more to secure an independent Kurdistan, which eventually leads to the gobbling up of a good third of southern and western Turkey and a major war in the process, or YEAH, it's time to get out.
