re: Moving to Greenville, SC

JS, one of my sons (both of my sons live in Greenville) is a teacher and his likely future mother in law is also. One lives Downtown and the other a couple minutes away from downtown. A little pricey, good bit of gentrification in progress but, it’s a great area!
I don’t know what your price range is, nor what your limit on commute time is but, if lake life appeals to you, you’ll find that available here. I just moved into a home on Lake Hartwell very near Anderson SC, and it’s about 25 miles across I 85 from there to Greenville. Nice quiet area and you can be in Greenville in 30 minutes or so and in Atlanta in about 1 1/2 hours, about 110 miles . depending on where you go in Atlanta. There’s also Lake Keowee but, it’s a little longer to Greenville from that area. Several people in my small neighborhood commute to Greenville daily for work.
