Only the majors and only kinda so far...maybe it ramps up. I do know that two big energy PE firms have put together their own alt-energy funds recently as a hedge and probably because the E&P and Midstream markets are total dog shite for the last couple years...maybe there's a return in green.
I'm not even specifically talking about Green. But the bottom line is nobody knows the energy business better than energy companies.
And the energy companies are no different than any other company. They have to anticipate potential threats to their business model we're changes in the business landscape. Ask every company in America who failed to prepare for the internet age how well that worked out for them. Those that didn't adjust are gone
Well I don't know when it's going to happen but some company is going to make a great leap forward. It might not even be specifically in an alternative energy. People forget that most of the progress we've made isn't in new sources but in being much more efficient with the current ones
What happens if somebody develops an engine that's twice as efficient or a method of transmitting power that's twice as efficient or a method of storing power that's twice as efficient
all of these things are things a company has to worry about if they are in the energy business because whoever gets there first is going to have a major advantage over all of the other energy companies
