Disclaimer: I have no sauces. But I'm a Saints fan, saw the injury, and saw the test the trainer was performing. Oh and I have experience in hand surgery.

is this the same thing as gamekeeper's thumb? looks like it, I had that sx years back, but part of bone came loose where the ligament attaches. took a while to even swing a golf club.

Yep. Also called “skiers thumb”. Some people make a distinction between the 2, designating skiers thumb as an acute injury like Brees and gamekeepers thumb referring to injury as the result of chronic repetitive force. Either way, the UCL snaps.
