I cannot bring myself to watch this movie.

I haven't been able to watch any of the docs or coverage since that day. I lost a good friend from law school in NYC and my first company commander and mentor when I was a butter bar in the Pentagon. My wife and I were transfixed that day but had to put it behind us.

9/11 was a weird Tuesday morning for us. We had gotten back late Monday from Hawaii and had slept in so we woke up and started the day with no idea what was happening. It was before push notices on your phone. I called my grandmother to let her know we were back safe, just standard placating grandma, this was about 9:30 and she started freaking out on the phone about planes falling from the sky. My wife turned the TV on just when the reports of the pentagon crash were coming in. My wife is a doctor and death, dying and general mahem simply do not phase here, but she did the oddest thing I have ever seen her do, she quietly got a legal pad and a pen and took notes for about 8 hours. She wasn't trying to "solve" anything it was just the only thing she could do. She didn't take any of the tons of phonecalls we received that day and wouldn't allow me to speak except during the rare commercials until late that day.

The next morning I woke up to her sitting up in the bed, as I got up she said "If your unit gets activated don't come back a different man, I have loved three men that looked like you and I am afraid I might not love the forth". She was referencing how she said I was a different person when I can back from Granada and then again from Desert Storm. My unit wasn't activated until after I got out.

Sorry for the Oweo level post, not sure why this triggered thoughts from 18 years ago especially on the MTV board.
