I actually appreciate how it mentions that some of the passengers wanted to do nothing for a while and let it all play out. Only after they heard what had happened to the other planes did they realize they needed to act.
People forget how regular plane hijackings in the 60s and 70s were. I'm no expert on the subject matter but if I understand usually the hijacker would hijack the plane, make some demand (release of a political prisoner or something), and land the plane and was either arrested immediately or tried to slip custody. I know I'm way oversimplifying that but I believe that's what it used to be like more less.
So it made sense for the the passengers on United 93 - and the passengers on other 3 planes - to kind of sit there and let the hijacking play out for a while. No one had seen or heard of using commercial airlines as a weapon like that.
Anyway, I'm glad that was a point they highlighted in the movie.

Exactly. It was unheard of that any regular person would assume that a hijacking would turn into what it did. Most hijackers did not want to die or else why hijack the plane? These guys were the first of their kind to knowingly go into this as martyrs which should show everyone how crazy these idiots and their religion are and were.
