Hope they can do better on scheduling than Parish County Line (tomorrow night). Not exactly an auspicious first booking.

Haven't seen their calendar yet. Hope they make it attracting live music to downtown.
These small venues typically attract up and coming alternative bands or low-profile indie groups that are not on the radar of most BR listeners. Like it or not they'll be competing with the Varsity.

After reading the article, looks doubtful.

Some things this place needs to consider (my 2 cents):

1. Figure out parking accessibility. If getting asses in the seats is the goal, don't make the experience tedious before said asses even get into the venue. Some kind of validated parking would be advantageous.
2. Understand that they will likely operate in the red until the ball gets rolling and don't let that nip things in the bud.
3. They need to cover all areas of advertisement. Radio, TV, print media, etc. They need to be as unavoidable as Gordon McKernan.
4. Of course they need to acquire some wisdom in regards to booking. Please, please, please do not take the Varsity or Lauberge as anything but an example of what NOT to do. Book nationwide names, strive toward all original, don't avoid older, "passe" acts with stealthily large followings.
5. Look at failed venues in this area and figure out why they failed (I would hope that goes without saying).

Plenty of bands that can fill those seats. I wouldn’t blame it on BR listeners.

unfortunately i am going to go out on a limb and say this will fail in two years or less...

There is no way they will compete with the varsity. Varsity has location and an established presence as far as getting acts.

Maybe the Basin forks up the money and buys the Varsity's booking person

they don't need to waste their money and time on the Varsity's talent buyer... absolutely garbage calendar for the fall. This is the time to make a difference with no Spanish Moon and a glut of byob listening rooms/halls (which certainly have their place)

They've done a really good job with this place. I hope it makes it. Drinks are a tad high.

Agreed. The build out the previous owners did was great. Always thought it could be a successful music venue. Just matters if the owners go the typical 1/2 BTR way or decide to actually follow through.

Well that sucks. So it’s a dry venue now?

Yes how dare they book acts that can draw a crowd instead of trying to appease a few elitist hipsters.

Booking for that sized venue is a challenging balance of art and commerce, but is attainable with vision and taste. There is no reason they cannot appeal to all sorts of music fans — Barroness one night, low hanging fruit of Better than Ezra the next night etc.... in that market you have to have a diverse approach. But what I thankfully only have witness from afar is a barren wasteland of dates with a smattering of uninspired bookings. Look no further than the calendars of venues like The Variety Playhouse, Stubbs, One Eyed Jacks, Georgia Theater. Consistent Quality offerings that cut across different styles and taste. It certainly has gotten better since the casino talent buyer actually got a gig at a casino. But to say the new spot should follow that lead or try to get their buyer is laughable.

The casino talent buyer is the owner of the basin
