The easy answer is that all totalitarians hate guns in the hands of the citizens who are to be controlled. But there is some interesting stuff on females visceral reaction to guns as inanimate objects. A gun near them without someone holding it causes them stress. So they want guns to not exist.

It's kinda like guys and snakes. If you're in the woods and you discover a non poisonous snake curled up under the log you just stepped over your heart rate goes up even though you logically know you're not in danger.
