He's been overshadowed, or at least equalled, by costars in several movies. DDL in Gangs of NY, Tom Hardy in The Revenant, and now Brad Pitt in Once Upon A Time in Hollywood were all better than Leo. He was great in Django but so were Jackson and Waltz. Nicholson had the flashier role in The Departed and even Marky Mark was good enough to get a nomination.

I was telling someone the same thing the other day. Also, the AA for best supporting was absolutely stacked. I walked out of Creed thinking Stallone was going to win, then saw The Revenant and Hardy was incredible. Thought it was coming down to those two but Rylance ended up beating them both. I believe Bale was in there as well.
