I have a 7 yo girl. We live 3/4 mile from her school. No way I’d let her walk or bike home. She’s too inattentive and it’s about a quarter mile along the main road with hills and cars that go a little fast approaching the school zone.
Now, there is a neighborhood right across from the school. If we lived there and she was walking with a group of other kids (who were a little older) I’d consider it.
You gotta know your kid and know your area. All situations aren’t the same.

schools aren't in the business of evaluating hundreds of different situations making calls on which are acceptable and which are not. blanket policies dude.
