Running less than a 10 minute mile pace should be easily doable at any age unless you’re just obese.

UPDATE

Ran for the first time last night. Terrain was flat sidewalk ( race route will be closed off downtown streets). I was sucking wind after the first mile and somehow was able to make it to 1.5 before I had to stop. I was blazing for the first mile though, with my app telling me I was at a 9.30 pace. Surprisingly, I ran the .5 miles at just over 10 minutes. It felt much slower than a 10 minute pace, but this is my first time doing this, so what do I know. The second half was a disaster. I walked for about 5 minutes to regain my composure and did the rest in intervals. Jog 30 seconds, walk 30 seconds. Overall I went 2.7 miles in about 36 minutes. The soreness is kicking in this morning, especially in the upper thighs. Feels a little sweet actually. It feels like what I've imagined a period feels like.

I'll take it easy until Saturday and try to rest up. I ran about 2 hours after dinner and could definitely still feel the food on my stomach. I'm thinking about having a big carb filled lunch (based on what I read here and other sources) on Friday and then going on a 20 or so hour fast leading up to race time. (8am Saturday). Feeling a little bit lighter can't hurt the cause. I still plan on walking the route at some point on Friday just to familiarize myself with the area.

They say your biggest improvement when overcoming obstacles comes on the second attempt. I would be lying though if I said I'm feeling more confident after the test run. Maybe I'm neutral. Here's hoping passion, love, and an athletic drive propels me to victory on Saturday.
