Hi Guys…similar situation …I’m a NC resident and my son has been a huge fan his entire life…I’m planning on giving him and early Christmas present and taking him to the Arkansas game, this being our first trip I have no idea about the do’s and don’ts of game day…we plan on flying into BTR the Friday afternoon of and flying out Sunday morning…some of the questions I have are...some of these have already been answered

Do I need to rent a car or can I Uber it all weekend

Are there preferred areas to stay and other areas not to stay (no offense, I could tell you where not to go in my hometown)

If I rent a car how is parking, how easy is it to catch a shuttle to and from the game?

Should I make sure that we have tickets prior to game or roll the dice on picking some up at the gate

…and any other tips that you may have…

Thanks

Baton Rouge is 100% a driving town. If you plan on seeing anything other than campus, I'd get the car. You can Uber for sure, but catching a ride every time you want to go somewhere gets old.

Definitely. Baton Rouge is really limited with hotel options. As others have said, downtown gives you the best "scenery" and taste of the city while being close to campus. College drive area is decent and not too far away, although some of the hotels are a bit older. Other than that, just check here before you book.

Parking is a mixed bag. It's easy to get to campus, find a spot, and get to the tailgating/game. It's usually a nightmare to get out. Shuttles are plentiful, but just make sure you know where the pickup points and times are and don't get on the wrong one.

The game will probably be a sellout on paper, but you will 100% be able to buy tickets around the stadium on gameday. Just depends how much your peace of mind is worth.

This is probably your best bet. Considering you don't know the roads and it'll be a nightmare on game day, just use Uber. Just plan on leaving early for the game. The traffic on the interstate gets absolutely nuts on games days and it gets even worse the longer you wait to get to the game.

Get to campus early, not saying at the crack of dawn but if it's a night game, (which I think it will be) I'd be on campus by at least 1, if not sooner. Just walk around, visit tailgates (don't be shy, seriously. Introduce yourself, explain it's your first time and so forth) people will give you food and drink.

Go see Mike, have to do that. Go see the team come down the hill (I know you're in NC, you have much more hills than we do but it's our hill ) and the band comes down approximately 15-20 minutes after the players. Plan on doing that. Who knows if you'll be back to see it. That's a must.

You can find tickets for that game right up to kick off. People will be walking around holding up extra tickets. If you get nervous, walk around with however many fingers up in the air that show how many tix you need.

No disrespect to Arkansas but they were pretty awful last year so I don't think there will be a big demand (aka people asking high prices for tickets). Just beware of the guys riding around on bikes. Sometimes they'll give you bogus tickets.

I'd walk to the north end of the stadium and just look. It sounds crazy but people will literally be holding up tickets they want to sell. Just pay face value for them.

Lucky for you, that should be a night game so you'll get hooked.
